CHERI BIGBEE, DYSLEXIA SPECIALIST
My name is Cheri Bigbee, and dyslexia/reading remediation has been my passion for the last fifteen years. I graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in curriculum and instruction with a specialty in reading. After teaching third grade for ten years I began training in dyslexia. I then worked as a campus reading specialist in Fort Bend I.S.D. for twelve years. During that time I continued my education in dyslexia training in order to qualify as a state licensed Dyslexia Therapist and then retired to pursue private dyslexia practice in the Fort Bend area. New research about dyslexia and the brain is constantly updated, so the continuing education hours that the license requires each year keep me current.
Young brains are considered "flexible" which allows the creation of new neural pathways to remediate reading. For that reason early intervention is necessary whether or not dyslexia testing has been completed. Parents are often the first to notice early signs of a reading disorder. Dyslexia remediation is not a quick fix, but I love watching confidence emerge as students progress through the program.
