Hi! I’m Melissa Gillespie and I’m excited to be working with students at the Washington County Learning Center. I received both a B.S and M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in Reading, from Texas A&M University. I also trained as a Master Reading Teacher for BISD through a year long  program at Sam Houston State University. In 2017, I retired after 33 years in education, where I taught all subjects in grade levels Kindergarten thru 3rd. During my final 6 years with BISD, I served as an instructional specialist, coaching teachers Pre-K thru 4th grade in fostering engaging lessons and best teaching practices in the classroom. Since retirement, I have been working part time as a reading interventionist for the school district as well as tutoring students one on one. I am truly invigorated by working with students on focussed areas of need, as well as communicating with parents and sharing tips and tools with them to help their children. A large part of all of this is helping the students to see ( and feel) the potential within themselves. #TeamworkMakestheDreamwork
